Zohar
Fresco (
זהר פרסקו) was born in Israel to Turkish-Jewish parents in 1969. Zohar Fresco began playing percussion instruments at a very young age. He swiftly became enamored with Oriental music and began to play with older musicians who had immigrated to Israel from Arab
countries His truly amazing
finger style expresses itself on a vast array of Oriental as well as
Western percussion instruments, for which he has developed techniques
inspired from Arab, Indian and Persian music. .

Zohar Fresco is a virtuoso of many percussion instruments, and his performances with the darbuka and the frame drums (such as Bendir, Riqq, and Tar) have left audiences all over the world awestruck. After years of playing these instruments, he has developed original techniques that include influences of Arabic, Indian, Persian, and Turkish music, as well as Jazz. Zohar Fresco is undoubtedly one of the best and most sought after percussionists in the world, and a
star on the international scene.

His exceptional musical curiosity and his interest in a wide range of styles have led him to perform with many artists in Israel and abroad. At the age of twenty-one he joined the
multi-ethnic, Israel-based
instrumental ensemble Bustan Abraham. He was also a member of Ziryab Trio and of
Arabandi. |

About
Bustan Abraham: Bustan Abraham is comprised of
seven distinguished Israeli musicians, both Jewish and Arabs, who
have combined their experience as composers, soloists and heads of
musical ensembles to create instrumental music which combines
elements of both Eastern and Western traditions. The background of
Bustan's members represent an astonishing variety of musical
cultures, including classical Arabic and European music, Jazz,
Indian, Turkish and Flamenco music. Bustan Abraham's recordings and
powerful stage performances were greeted with standing ovations all
over the world.
With
Bustan Abraham, Zohar releases 5 albums and also a compilation album that
is a collection of their best pieces from their first decade performing

Ziryab
Trio was founded in 1995 by Taiseer Elias, Nassim Dakwar and Zohar Fresco,
three virtuoso musicians who are also members of Bustan Abraham. The group
concentrates on performing arabic and turkish music from the 19th and 20th
centuries and was founded with the goal of giving a deeper expression to
Oriental music and its various genres.

A small sample of his international credits, apart from the above mentioned groups, include both recordings and performances with renowned composers Phillip Glass, Glen Velez, and Zakir Hussain. Zohar is an integral part of the recordings and worldwide performances of the internationally acclaimed singer
Noa (since 1993 when performed percussion on
Noa's album "Achinoam Nini Gil Dor). In addition to this, Zohar taught at the "Academy of Music" in
Jerusalem (where he was teacher and head of the Oriental percussion department)

Zohar Fresco is in great demand as a
percussionist, and performed and recorded with many
artists, includingwith Israel's best artists: Eti Ankri, Beri Sacharov, Shem Tov Levi, Ahuva Ozeri, Yirmi Kaplan, David Broza, Arik Einstein, and many
others.
