("A free translation from German into English" by Li Isings) Noa Here and "Now" Dream of Peace in Israel
She dreamed of the big break. For this, Noa, the singer who lives in Israel, left out most of the oriental influences on her previous album "Blue Touches Blue" - and tried to find her way in the vast sea of pop. The experiment didn't work out. What remained are a few beautiful ballads and the understanding that it is better to keep close to your own personality and style. On "Now" the western influence dominates as well. However, Noa and her musical companion, the guitarist Gil Dor, have returned to rely on the uncomparable beautiful, warm and expressive voice of the musical worldtraveller of Yeminite origins. The result is a very personal album, filled mostly with ballads that reflect Noa's dream of peace between the Jews and the Palestinians - she interprets the Beatles' classic "We can work it out" by singing it with the Palestinian singer Mira Awad.
Another essential influence is the fact that Noa has become a mother. Now she, who shows immense optimism and would have gone for world peace even if she'd had to do it alone, all of a sudden finds herself with the responsibility for another person. Take "Now Forget", where she vouches to protect her son, this alone makes this album valuable. But also "Worry Doll", such a simple but beautiful song about worry dolls, deeply touches the listeners.
Noa im Hier und "Now" Traum vom Frieden in Israel
Sie hat vom ganz gro?en Durchbruch getra"umt. Dafu"r hat die in Israel lebende Sa"ngerin Noa beim Vorga"nger "Blue Touches Blue" auf fast alle orientalischen Einflu"sse verzichtet - und hat versucht, im weiten Popmeer ihren Hafen zu finden. Das Experiment ist gescheitert. Geblieben sind damals ein paar wunderscho"ne Balladen und wohl die Erkenntnis, dass es doch besser ist, sich selber treu zu bleiben. Sicher, auch auf "Now" dominieren die westlichen Einflu"sse. Aber Noa und ihr musikalischer Wegbegleiter, der Gitarrist Gil Dor, vertrauen wieder versta"rkt der unvergleichlich scho"nen, warmen und ausdrucksstarken Stimme der musikalischen Weltenbummlerin jemenitischer Abstammung. Herausgekommen ist ein sehr perso"nliches, vorwiegend von Balladen gepra"gtes Album, in dem sich auch Noas politischer Traum vom Frieden zwischen Juden und Pala"stinensern widerspiegelt - den Beatles-Klassiker "We can work it out" interpretiert sie zusammen mit der
pala"stinesischen Sa"ngerin Mira Ward.
Ganz wesentlich gepra"gt ist "Now" auch von der Tatsache, dass Noa Mutter geworden ist. Jetzt hat sie, die mit ihrem grenzenlosen Optimismus am liebsten im Alleingang die Welt verbessern wu"rde, plo"tzlich die Verantwortung fu"r jemand anderen. Allein "Now Forget", jener Schwur, den Sohn zu beschu"tzen, ist dieses Album wert. Aber auch "Worry Doll", ein so einfacher wie scho"ner Song u"ber Sorgenpu"ppchen, beru"hrt den Ho"rer tief. hol Noa, "Now" Universal 586 887-2
