" Abbiamo un sogno" gridano Noa e Nabil mano nella mano nella suggestiva piazza di Melpignano, nel cuore del Salento, dove l'amministrazione ha conferito loro la cittadinanza onoraria. Vuole sognare pure la piccola comunità leccese, stretta intorno agli artisti, la cantante israeliana Noa e il musicista palestinese Nabil, impegnati sui temi della pace e della convivenza tra i due popoli. Un evento che si è caricato di significati e di riflessione dopo l'improvviso stop registrato dalle trattative di Camp David tra Arafat e Barak, e alla luce ieri della vittoria in Israele su Simon Peres di Moshè Katsav. 

"We  have a dream" said loudly Noa and Nabil holding hands in the suggestive square of Melpignano, in the heart of Salento, where the administration has conferred them the honorary citizenship. The little Leccese community wants to share the dreams of  both artists, the Israeli singer Noa and the palestinian musician Nabil, busy working for peace and the cohabitation between israelis and palestinians. An event that is full of new meanings and reflections after the sudden stop of Camp David's  negotiations between Arafat and Barak, and also because of the new news of  yesterday and the victory in Israel of Moshè Katsav against Simon Peres.

Dice a proposito il giorno dopo Nabil: "se in quel paese si fa un passo indietro, altrove ci si muove verso la pace e la convivenza. Certo, dopo la frenata degli incontri di Camp David questa vittoria rappresenta un arretramento nelle prospettive del processo di pace. Ma non dobbiamo chiuderci nel silenzio, perché c'è un mondo fatto di gente comune che non abbandona la speranza". Come dimostra il gesto della cittadina di Melpignano, appunto. Aveva detto Nabil: "non ho cittadinanza né passaporto. Sono un profugo palestinese, i miei genitori sono fuggiti in Libano nel 1948 ed io ho lo status di rifugiato in Libano. Uno come me non può abbandonare l'ottimismo e la speranza. Voglio ricordare a chi è scettico su questi gesti di pace e civiltà che i palestinesi hanno solo la striscia di Gaza e tante baracche. Non possiamo ritornare indietro". 

About this (the israeli political situation) Nabil says: "if there's a footstep back in that country  a footstep, elsewhere it stirs us toward the peace and the cohabitation. I am a fugitive palestinese, my parents they are run away in Lebanon in 1948 and me I have the status of refugee in Lebanon. One as me cannot abandon the optimism and the hope. I want to remember to whom is sceptic on these gestures of peace and civilization that the palestinesis have only the strip of Gaza and so many huts. We cannot return back."

E' lo stesso sentimento di Achinoam Nini Barak, 30 anni, figlia di Israele cresciuta nel Bronx, che oggi risiede a Tel Aviv: "faccio ciò che so fare, cioè cantare. Ognuno faccia la sua parte ma una stretta di mano tra un palestinese ed un israeliano rappresenta sempre un passo verso la pace. La speranza è contagiosa".  And the same feeling of Achinoam Nini Barak, 30 years, daughter of Israel grown in the Bronx, that  today resides in Tel Aviv: "I do what I know how to do, that is to sing. Each one makes part but a handshake among a palestinese and an Israeli it always represents a footstep toward the peace. The hope is contagious."

Emozionati come due bambini, Noa e Nabil hanno ricevuto la cittadinanza onoraria come ambasciatori di pace durante un consiglio comunale tenuto in piazza. "Prima di stringere la mano a Noa non lo avevo mai fatto con un israeliano perché lo consideravo un nemico, ma la musica è un linguaggio universale che va al di là delle ragioni e costituisce un punto di incontro soprattutto quando si tratta di temi come la questione palestinese" ha detto ancora Nabil, che vive e lavora a Bari con i Radiodervish. Ha partecipato a Valencia al simposio internazionale promosso dall'UNESCO Le sfide del terzo millennio, cantando insieme ad artisti palestinesi e israeliani. L'anno scorso si è esibito a Parigi in occasione di un evento per la pace a cui hanno preso parte Nelson Mandela, Shimon Peres, Yasser Arafat. Ha collaborato con Jovanotti alla realizzazione del video della canzone Stella cometa, traducendo il testo e cantandone la versione araba. 

Excited as two children, Noa and Nabil  have received the honorary citizen as ambassadorial of peace during a kept town suggestion in plaza. "Before shaking the hand to Noa I had never done it with an Israeli because I considered them an enemy, but the music is an universal language that goes beyond the reasons and it constitutes above all a point of meeting when it comes with themes as the matter palestinese" you/he/she has still said Nabil, that alive and he/she works in Bari with the Radiodervishes. He has participated in Valencia to the international symposium promoted by the UNESCO her challenges of the third millennium, singing together to artists palestinesi and Israeli. Last year is exhibited in Paris on the occasion of an event for the peace to which have taken part Nelson Mandela, Shimon Peres, Yasser Arafat. He has collaborated with Jovanotti to the realization of the video of the song Stella comet, translating the text and singing the Arabic version of it.
"La coscienza nei due popoli sta crescendo - aggiunge Nabil - Ma non deve essere una pace imposta per l'interesse di qualcuno, altrimenti sarà fragile. Innanzitutto la dignità di ognuno. Ce lo siamo detti, io e Noa, per sbloccare il dialogo: due Stati, due popoli con la loro rispettiva dignità. E' la nostra parola d'ordine per andare avanti. Credo che Melpignano non abbia nulla da invidiare alle più grandi città in quanto a coscienza della dignità dell'uomo, di chi rischia la vita nutrendo il sogno che può anche infrangersi sulle rocce di Otranto"."The conscience in the two people is growing - adds Nabil - But it doesn't have to be a peace it plans for the interest of someone, otherwise it will be fragile. I believe that Melpignano doesn't have anything to envy to the greatest cities in as for conscience of the dignity of the man, of whom risks the life feeding the dream that can also break down on the rocks of Otranto."

Noa ha suonato con artisti jazz e blues come Sting, Pat Metheny e Pino Daniele. Ha inciso la colonna sonora del film di Benigni La vita è bella e il primo maggio ha cantato davanti al Papa per il Giubileo dei lavoratori. "Sono cresciuta in un ambiente molto chiuso con un peso della religione molto forte e pensavo che la mia religione fosse la più bella. Poi è successo qualcosa nel mio cervello e in tutte le religioni ho capito che c'era qualcosa di buono. L'arte e la musica ti aiutano a superare tutti i muri e a non vedere nell'altro il nemico". Noa has played with  jazz and blues artists as Sting, Pat Metheny and Pino Daniele. She has recorded the soundtrack of Benigni's film Life is beautiful and the first May has sung in front of the Pope for the Jubilee of the workers. "I've grown in a very closed environment with a weight of the very strong religion and I thought that my religion was the most beautiful. Then something has happened in my brain and in all the religions I have understood that there was something of good. The art and the music help you to overcome all the walls and not to see in the other the enemy."
Le esperienze di impegno per la pace a Melpignano non sono una novità: un comune con un forte bracciantato ed ex-monocolore del PCI con una consolidata emigrazione in Svizzera e in Belgio. Ha organizzato una rassegna giovanile del cinema cubano nell'82, incontri tra giovani musicisti italiani e sovietici nell'88, l'anno scorso iniziative per finanziare gli artisti invalidati nel conflitto della ex Jugoslavia e da quattro anni a questa parte l'impegno per Emergency e nella campagna anti-mine.
Insomma arte e cultura si coniugano in questo piccolo comune, crocevia di migranti e profughi ma anche epicentro di progetti di pace e accoglienza, convinti come sono a Melpignano che "il mondo sarebbe più triste senza i poeti". Parola di Nabil.
