Noa's concert in The Hague, The Netherlands. February 1995. |
by Marion Kippers
Even though this concert was not as intimate as the one in Utrecht in December, and of course I knew what to expect now, it was again very, very worthwhile. The CD still pales in comparison. Apparently a new CD will be released in September, or so 'they' said. On 30 March they'll be performing live in New York in the Carnegie Hall - go see them if you can!
This time we didn't have to wait outside in the cold to meet them, we could just stay in the foyer and wait for them to appear. Before and during the concert we had seen quite a few
familiar faces of people who where at the Utrecht concert as well, and we were really surprised at how many people Noa seemed to know or remember as well.
Noa did most of the signing; Gil was there as well, but he hid around a corner... :) He deserves more attention, but he seems a bit shy to me. Marcel and I were not in a hurry - Marcel lives in Den Haag, and I still had two hours to catch my last train home, so we just waited until the crowd thinned out somewhat. When it was our turn Noa looked at Marcel - surprise! Then she saw me, and she was very enthusiastic when she recognized us, and she said "Ah! The golden pen!" (that's Marcel's famous golden pen). She even remembered _us_!
Marcel gave her his Happy tape, and when she signed my "I don't know" CD-single I gave her a print-out copy of the review I wrote about the concert in Utrecht. Marcel took some pictures with my camera (I'm nowhere when it comes to taking pictures of people :) ), and then we left the signing table to have a chat with Gil (well, I did).
I really liked mjm's description of Gil, "GILDOR. One letter for each string of his guitar", and I told him about that. He was very, very pleased with the compliment. He wanted to know
where I had read that, and said that he would like to read that letter. So I told him about Ecto (with a pointer to Marcel's Happy tape for Noa), and about mjm's post about the concert in Evanston. He knew a bit about the Internet, and was very excited to hear that he and Noa had been mentioned in such a positive way. He said once again that he would like to read that letter, so Mike, if you don't mind, I could forward it to him (or rather a print-out, as I've only got a snail mail address). Also both he and Noa (who joined us a bit later) were very interested in the other posts that had been written about them, so if you (all) don't mind I could send them along (I've saved posts from mjm, Joe, Vickie and Pablo Iglesias - please let me know if you don't want me to forward them), together with the introduction for the list and perhaps a Happy FAQ?
I had also brought a copy of Joe's translations - Gil read them first, and he called Noa. At first she didn't understand what it was, so Gil explained - Noa's reaction was "At first I
thought _I_ wrote that!" and Gil added "Yes, it's very close!" So Joe, you did a very good job! Thanks again! (I'm afraid my private e-mail 'Thank you' never made it to your mailbox... Sorry. :( ). And apparently Noa has translated her lyrics in English as well, or perhaps she wrote them in English first and then translated them to Hebrew.
Well, that's all (I guess it's long enough already). Now we're only still hoping to get the first two CD's from Israel... |
