Noa to realease her album "Noa". Info by Geffen Records 1994

My name is Cathy Wallis and I help run the Geffen Records section of the Music Vendors Forum on CompuServe. I'd like to make you aware of a new release coming up on Geffen Records which may be of interest to you. Her nickname is Noa, her given name is Achinoam Nini. Born in Tel Aviv, her family moved to the Bronx, where she grew up. As a young jewish woman of Yemenite extraction she found herself longing to find her true roots. When she was a teenager she convinced her parent to allow her to move back to Israel, where she has now resided for several years.

She will be releasing a self-titled album the first week of March. Although Noa has released several recordings in Israel, and is something of a superstar there, for many Americans this may be the first encounter of this vibrant, incredibly talented young woman.

Produced by Pat Metheny, Noa is a lovely sophisticated pop/jazz/twist-of-exotic album. Her vocals are clear and evocative, and showcase her writing (both in English and Hebrew). She plays guitar, piano, and percussions, as well as darbuka (an Arabic drum).

Her live shows are mesmerizing. She incorporates her dance background (she trained at the Alvin Ailey and Martha Graham Dance Centers). her days at the New York High School Of Performing Arts, and her natural ability to use any surface to tap out an accompanying beat to her singing. Her life experiences include: recording a live album on the last day of the Gulf War; an Israel-only release that has since attained gold status. She has sung at a Peace festival in Sicily -- alongside Palestinian Arabs, lon g before the peace talks. Breaking down musical and geographical borders is important to Noa.

If you are involved in an organization and would like to have Noa get involved in community activities, such as an appearance at a fundraiser or other special event, please e-mail me at 72662.1315.compuserve.com.

Sincerely,
Cathy Wallis
